Hi Parents,

Mrs. Everson's Social Studies Class:

Hi Parents!  I am looking forward to a great year!  This year in Social Studies will be quite a learning experience.  Students will learn about the forms of government, economic systems, and histories of Europe, Latin America, Canada and Australia.  The first couple of weeks of school will be the most challenging as we go over the basic introduction to forms of government and economic systems.  There will be a lot of new vocabulary - however, we will review these all year long.  Feel free to go to www.georgiastandards.org to review all we are required to learn this school year.  You will be amazed!!!

Math with Mr. Childers

Greetings from the Ellijay Tribe!
For more information about 6th Grade Mathematics and my classroom, please visit my webpage. There is a page with photos of my classroom, activities outside the classroom, the 6th Grade Math Team, and the First Lego League.  You will also find a page dedicated to Useful Resources and another specifically for CRCT Preparation with both pages containing videos and downloadable reference material. Throughout the school year you will also find weekly updates to the Homework and Assignments page where students may download the current assignments and view upcoming important dates.

Dr. McCann's Science Class:

Hello Ellijay parents, in 6th grade science, we study Earth Science.  We begin with a short unit on lab safety and measurement.  We will jump into Geology for the first nine weeks.  Some of the topics include layers of the Earth, plate tectonics and soil.  The second nine weeks will focus on Hydrology.  Students will learn new concepts about water (salt and fresh) and they will explore the "land"forms on the ocean floor.  The third nine weeks is all about Meteorology.  The first lesson is that it has nothing to do with meteors, but everything to do with weather and our atmosphere.  We take a break about this time of year to review for the CRCT, along with a crash course in Astronomy.  After CRCT, we end the year with Astronomy, a definite crowd favorite.

Throughout the year, don't be surprised to receive emails begging for supplies for labs.  I always need paper towels!

For all our science standards, visit www.georgiastandards.org.

Thanks and Happy 2013-14,

Dr. McCann
