Mrs. Caudill's
Policies and Procedures

OUR CLASS BANK
Every week each student will receive a salary for helping out in the class room. It will automatically be deposited into their online account. Your child can choose to spend or save the classroom money that they receive. There are various ways that your child can choose to spend his/her money, as well as gain money. This system was put in place to teach students when and what to spend their money on and that saving is important.

*See Georgia Performance Standard SS4E2 The student will identify the elements of a personal budget
and explain why personal spending
and saving
decisions are important.

BEHAVIOR CARDS
Students begin each day on a green card. If a student breaks a rule, he/she will pull the green card and go to yellow. For minor infractions, the student is given a warning before a card is pulled. For a more serious offenses, such as those of a verbally hurtful manner, talking during a test, or break a school-wide rule, a card is pulled without prior warnings. If a student pulls their yellow card, they will be on blue and they will lose 10 minutes of their PAT Time. Depending on the situation, the parents might receive a note, or phone call. If the student pulls their blue card and moves to red, they will lose their entire PAT and the parents will be notified of the problem. If a student pulls all of their cards, and goes back to green, they are sent to the choices room to complete an Action Plan to determine how to correct their behavior. For any offense that is is found extremely offensive or distruptive; the student may be sent directly to the choices room.

SUPPLIES
All students needs a supply of paper and pencils to start the year. These supplies will need to be replenished periodically throughout the year. Students are responsible for making sure they have 2 sharpened pencils at the beginning of each day. I will have a basket of "community use" pencils for when pencils break. Students may sharpen their pencils during the day, however no student should get up to sharpen a pencil (or get another pencil) when someone is talking.
MORNING ROUTINE
Every morning, students will have a routine to follow. Students enter the room, clean out their book bags for the day, sharpen their pencils, put away book bags, make lunch choices, complete morning math and Daily Grammar Practice (DGP).

LUNCH CHOICE & MONEY
Students in the 4th grade are offered an alternate menu. This menu, along with the regular menu, is posted in the classroom. The students have until 8 am to sign up for their lunch choice. Anyone who does not sign up before 8 am, will receive a regular lunch tray.
Lunch money will be collected every morning and sent to the cafeteria. Please seal all checks or cash in an envelope with the child's name, the purpose, my name and their lunch number. When your child's account is below a certain amount they will receive a notice from the cafeteria that they need lunch money.

STUDENT ASSIGNMENT SHEET
The students are given an assignment sheet at the beginning of every week to record homework assignments and last minute messages. This sheet should stay in the front slot of their 3 ring binder at all times. It should follow your child to and from school EVERY DAY! Also, the assignment sheet needs to be checked every day by the parents to ensure your child has completed their homework and you have seen it. It will be turned in every morning, and they will receive bonus money when they get it signed every single day! If the sheet is not signed, then this will result in the student not participating in free or outside time.
HOMEWORK
Homework is assigned at random. Every assignment is written on the "Assignment Box" of our Matrix located on our white board. I ask them to write it on their assignment sheet, at the time the assignment is given, and also at the end of the day. This system is so that every student knows what is expected of them the next school day; and serves as a reminder to use their assignment sheet.

NO HOMEWORK PASS
Students may earn "No Homework Passes" during the year. When a student forgets to do a homework assignment or feels the need not to do it, then he/she may use a "No Homework Pass" on one assignment. The students may not use a homework pass on major projects.
(1 Pass = 1 Assignment)

MISSING ASSIGNMENTS
Students will be individually notified every few days when class work or homework has not been turned in or completed. They will be given until the next school day to complete the work and turn it in to Mrs. Caudill. If work has not been turned in after the student has been notified, then this will result in a zero.
NAME & NUMBER ON PAPER
Putting your name and number on class work, homework etc. is very important. Credit cannot be given to "no name/number" assignments. Since forgetting to put a name or number on a paper is a behavioral issue, for every time a name or number is not written down, 5 points will be deducted from the assignment. This can add up to a total of 10 Points if the student forgets their name and number. I remind them to do this every time an assignment is given.

MONDAY FOLDERS
Monday folders will be sent home every week with work from the previous week. Parents should review students' work with the student, and talk about the grades they received. Then parents should sign the back of the folder, and the student will bring it back to school. Various other pieces of information may also be found in the Monday Folders. Folders are expected to be returned the next school day. (If we happen not to be in school on Monday, then the folders will be sent home the following school day.)

BATHROOM/LIBRARY PROCEDURE
We have a sign posted at the front of the classroom called "Where Am I?". Every student's name is found on this sign, as well as a Velcro circle next to their name. When your child needs to go to the restroom or library (and it is not during instruction time or group time) they will simply take the appropriate symbol from the bottom of the sign, and Velcro it next to their name. If a student chooses to abuse this system, this will result in pulling a card and/or loss of this privilege. Please remember that we have class bathroom breaks, and a student will not be allowed to leave the classroom shortly after a classroom bathroom break. This is to avoid students leaving the room too much.

LEAVING THE CLASSROOM IN TWO'S
Our school has a policy of "two." Every time that a student leaves the room for any reason, they must have another student present with them (unless it is before 8:00 a.m.). We have a special job in our classroom that one person is assigned to escort anyone who needs to leave the room.

ATTENDANCE
It is very important that students are at school on time every day to take care of all morning routines. When students are late or absent, they lose valuable instruction. Most of the time students will not be able to make up the work because most of the learning that goes on is group work, group discussions and hands-on activities.
MAKE-UP WORK
When a student is absent from school, he/she will get most work given during the absence. Students are allowed to work on those missed assignments at school when all of their current work is complete. The assignments that could not be completed at school will go home for completion. Students will be given one day for every day that was missed to complete make-up work. If students know of an absence in advance, some work may be given prior to the absence if the parents request it and if enough notice has been given to prepare the work.

SNACK TIME
Everyday we will have snack time around 10:00. Students are allowed to bring a "healthy" snack from home to eat. Snacks can only be fresh fruits and vegetables. No other snacks are allowed during this time. Also, they should be packaged so that they will not be a distraction to the class.
CONFERENCES
Conferences are scheduled on an as needed basis when requested by a parent or the teacher. If at any time you feel that you need a conference, please send a note, email me, or call the school and leave a message. Also, you may request a conference through www.mrscaudillsclass.com. I am available for conferences as early as 7:25 AM and will stay at school until 3:25 PM. I will also be glad to have a conference over the phone if we can't find a time that is good for both of us to sit down and meet.
