 Math-In-The-News

Project

They key component to this project is to follow directions. It is very important that students follow written directions and have a successful end product from following these directions.  The directions state that each student must have a creative title, 5 articles, highlight where math is being used in each article, write a 3 to 4  sentence summary about how math is used in each article, and paste or tape to poster board.

  NO STAPLES!!!!!

Articles that have charts, graphs, stats, etc... should be included with the article if given.

Notice the sample picture below has articles, not advertisements, weather forecasts, or cooking recipes.

The only direction that was not followed on this project was to post the synopsis under each of the articles, not above or beside. Additionally, a 6th article was added and should not have been since the rubric only requires 5.

Don't forget that it must also be appealing to the eye!

This next project did not follow some of the requirements but still

met the standard.  You may not be able to see that staples were

used and the rubric only allows for paste or tape.

Secondly, two non- articles were posted which resulted in points deducted

from the score sheet.

Remember to highlight wherever math is used in the article and

post a 3 to 4 sentence summary of how the article uses math.

Just in case the rubric has been misplaced, here it is again.  You do NOT need the rubric on that day.   Each teacher has a class set already copied and ready to go!

You will notice that #1 on the rubric is worth 60 points.

*Getting 1 article is worth 4 points.

*Mounting that article earns another 4 points.

 *   Highlighting  where math is used in that article is another 4 points.

This totals 12 points an article.

If this is done 5 times then you have earned 60 points of the 100 points.

Just another example and for fun!

Based on what you have read...

What do you think this should have earned?

Use the rubric and you decide!
