4^th Grade students at New Mountain Hill Elementary School are  raising funds to support the relief efforts for Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.

All of our schools within the Harris County School District are excited about joining NMHE in supporting this project to benefit the Sandy Hook community.

The NMHE students have designed a T-shirt that will be sold to raise these funds.

T-shirts are available for $12.00 each. Sizes include: Youth Small - Youth XL and Adult Small - Adult 6X Large.  All of the proceeds will be contributed to the relief efforts at Sandy Hook. 

Please complete the Order Form and return it to your student's school by Friday, March 8th if you are interested in ordering a T-shirt.

Ms. Anita Wadley has been selected

by theHarris County School District as the district wide Teacher of the Year.

Ms. Wadley has been an educator for 12 years, is a Fortson native, and currently teaches Special Education at Mulberry Creek School. Ms. Wadley will represent Harris County as a candidate in the 2014 Georgia Teacher of the Year Program.

Ms. Wadley said: "I am elated and honored to represent the Harris County School System as its Teacher of The Year. I would like to especially thank all the wonderful students, colleagues, and families who supported me over the years. My primary goal has always been to inspire students to excel academically and to reach their full potential. In working with my students, I've learned that the power of high expectations coupled with the unyielding endeavor to push students beyond their own expectations creates a bright future filled with personal success and self-directed learning."

Mr. Jeff Branham Director of Human resources for the school district said: "Ms. Wadley has excelled as a teacher in our system for the past 12 years. Her passion and drive has enabled her to reach students of all levels taking them further than they ever imagined possible."

"Ms. Wadley is an excellent representative of the school systems commitment to academic excellence and students. She is creative, innovative, and insightful in her approach to teaching and the entire learning process." according to Dr. Craig Dowling Harris County Superintendent.

If selected as the Georgia Teacher of the Year Ms. Wadley would then qualify for the National Teacher of the Year Award.

On Friday evening, August 31, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. we celebrated the ribbon cutting for the new sports complex at Harris County High School.

NOTICE There will be special meeting of the Harris County Board of Education Evaluation Committee, Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. This meeting will be held at Creekside School. The purpose of this special meeting will be to work on an evaluation instrument for the superintendent of schools. Posted: October 22, 2012

On April 27^th, Creekside fifth and sixth graders participated in the Phenix City Annual 5^th and 6^th grade Math Tournament along with a dozen other schools.  The sixth grade team was poised for a strong showing  (last year's sixth grade team brought home the 1^st Place Overall trophy) and the fifth grade team was looking to make their presence felt as a first time participant in the tournament. Neither team disappointed…

The 6^th Grade Math Team, coached by Mr. Stephen Childers, garnered the 2^nd Place Overall trophy  and the 1^st Place Team - Written Exam  Trophy as well as two additional team awards: 2^nd Place - T-shirt Design and 2^nd Place - Ciphering.  William Whitten also earned a trophy for having the 3^rd highest score on the written exam.

Mrs. Melody Wills coached the 5^th Grade Math Team to a strong showing as well.  In their first year of participating in the tournament, the 5^th Grade Math Team finished first in t-shirt design and earned the 2^nd Place - Ciphering trophy as well.

A special thanks is necessary for the administration of Creekside School for their support.  The teachers are applauded for their hard work and commitment.  Thanks to all of the wonderfully supportive parents who were in attendance and ensured their children were able to participate. Last, but definitely not least, thanks to the brilliant "mathletes" who made their school, communities, and Harris County proud!
